Message from the President

"The Beloved Community…actively meets the challenge…that, “faith without works is dead”.

Rev. Dr. Michael L. Pfleger, Founding President of The Beloved Community
Rev. Dr. Michael L. Pfleger, Founding President
Dear Friends and Partners:

The Beloved Community started small and has grown continuously since our inception in 2004.  I founded this organization to be an extension of the community work that St. Sabina Church has become legendary for in the Auburn Gresham and surrounding communities.  I conceived The Beloved Community based on
Dr. King's global vision of a place where all people can equally share in the abundant resources of our country.  In Dr. King's "Beloved Community" the tolerance for poverty, hunger, and homelessness are replaced with human dignity, mutual respect, and love for one's neighbor.  Racism and all forms of discrimination, bigotry, and prejudice are replaced with a spirit of fellowship, equality and love.
The Beloved Community is unique in that it is a separate non-profit organization apart from St. Sabina Church.  It has its own mission and charter and while it is designed to fulfill the biblical command of love for one’s neighbor and actively meets the challenge set forth in the bible that, “faith without works is dead”, The Beloved Community is not a religious institution.  As such, it does not receive funding from the church or the archdiocese.

Like many grassroots organizations, we have weathered many storms.  We do not sugar-coat the fact that we are confronted with many challenges in these tough economic times.  Now, more than ever, we rely on the generosity and support of our friends.  I would like to thank all who have supported The Beloved Community in the past.  For those who have heard about us but may have been reluctant to become a partner, I ask you to take a fresh look.  For those who are just discovering The Beloved Community for the first time, I would like to personally invite you to visit us and learn more about our good works for yourself.  There are a number of ways for you to be a part of The Beloved Community.

Whether it’s making a financial contribution, volunteering to tutor or mentor a child, supporting a local business or sharing our story with those around you – there are many ways to help.

I would implore those who are interested in giving to not wait for an event or certain season in the year.  Giving can be done conveniently through our website or by contacting the organization.

Thank you for your commitment to making our community a success!

In the Pursuit of Justice,

Rev. Dr. Michael L. Pfleger
