Excellence in Education College Preparatory Program
This program supports middle and high school students in their pursuit of higher education by providing the resources, information, and academic assistance critical for the successful admittance and transition to college.  Our four specific objectives are:

  • Awareness – Exposure to the vast pool of colleges, scholarships, and career paths at their disposal;
  • Access – Technical support and advocating for our students with colleges, internship enrichment opportunities and scholarship programs;
  • Readiness – Effective social and academic support systems; and
  • Success – Information and support for our students as they graduate and enter colleges.

The program offers services to specifically address the needs of our youth at the various stages of development from middle school through the completion of high school:

  • Tutoring
  • Academic Enrichment Courses
  • College Exploration
  • College Application and Admission Support
  • High Stakes Test Preparation
  • Scholarship and Financial Aid Advising
  • Life Skills Training

Additionally, the program provides annual workshops for both parents and students addressing various topics related to the college application processes, financing a college education, completing the FAFSA form, and scholarships.

The program components complement rather than replicate college preparation services currently offered by local middle and high schools.

Our Bethune Carver Scholars cohort model offers intensive academic experience, college and career exploration to a smaller group of promising African-American young people.   Enrollment is selective, with each annual class comprised of students currently enrolled in junior high school and identified as leaders with the potential for high academic and personal achievement.  These students will remain in the program throughout their high school experiences, and staff will carefully track and measure their progress to evaluate program success.

Students meet twice a week at three hours per session to participate in academic enrichment courses in mathematics and reading, work closely with tutors to improve areas of lower achievement, and participate in various life skills activities and workshops.  Our scholars are also educated on healthy eating and nutrition through catered, kid-friendly nutritious meals and snacks, with discussion and experiments at every session.

Education is the cornerstone to change and success and The Excellence in Education Program address a staggering need in the Auburn Gresham area.

Youth Employment Resource Center
This center is designed for young adults, ages 16-24, addresses the severe need for jobs and job training in this age bracket.  Developing and implementing strategies for decent and productive work for young people has become a major challenge for the global community as well as for our local governments, employers, and organizations.  Supporting our young people and providing them with the resources necessary will help alleviate the cycle of poverty and social exclusion often stemming from inability to obtain gainful employment.
